In the 1500's, there was a great movement to correct errors and abuses within the Catholic Church. This movement was called the Protestant Reformation. Protestant meant that this group of Christians "protested" against the supreme authority of the pope, the Catholic church, and all of its errors and abuses. Reformation meant that they desired to reform the church, not abandon it. They wanted to purify the church from its errors and see it become what God intended it to be.
This Reformation held to five areas of distinction from Roman Catholic doctrine:
Faith Alone
We are made right with God completely apart from our works. We must trust in Jesus' substitutionary atonement for our sins.
Grace Alone
Salvation is not merited. It is entirely given to us by God's grace.
Christ Alone
Salvation is not found in the Church, the Saints, or in anything else. Salvation is only found in Jesus Christ.
Scripture Alone
The basis of our faith is not tradition, logic, or the decrees of man. Our faith is based upon the Scripture alone.
God's Glory Alone
No human being or saint receives the glory for our salvation. All praise and glory goes to God alone.
At Antioch we whole heartedly affirm all tenets of the Protestant Reformation. We love the doctrines of grace!
